About Us

The Atiwa Bird Conservation and Sanctuary Centre (ABCSC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to bird conservation, environmental protection, habitat restoration, tree planting, environmental education, and community engagement. Through conservation initiatives and advocacy, we work to protect avian species and preserve natural ecosystems for future generations. Located in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Atiwa Constituency.

With the rise of illegal mining in and around the forest reserves, the birds’ habitats have become increasingly threatened and endangered.

Many birds suffer fatal injuries, while others are killed or left unable to survive in the wild. This crisis inspired the creation of ABCSC to rescue and rehabilitate these vulnerable creatures.

Currently, we provide lifelong shelter to over 50 permanently injured birds, including African grey parrots and other parrot species.

We collaborate with local individuals and organizations to find permanent homes for birds that cannot be released post-rehabilitation but can still thrive in captivity.

Our sanctuary welcomes visitors, offering educational opportunities for communities across the region to connect with local wildlife. Through partnerships, outreach programs, and a team of passionate volunteers and “Avian Ambassadors,” we engage with schools, events, and community functions.

We are actively renovating and improving our enclosures to ensure the highest standard of care for both rescued and resident birds, while also developing projects to protect and highlight the ecosystems our wildlife depends on.

As an organization funded solely by donations and grants, we deeply appreciate your support in sustaining our mission.
